ROWAN MILLER Rowan Miller is only 14 years old but is racing in the Thundersport GP3 for the 2010 racing season. Born on the 17th September 1995 in Portsmouth, Rowan has always been around bikes, his dad Gary used to race during the 80s on LC and YPVS 350 Yamahas. It was two months after his eighth birthday that he rode a LEM 50 in some nearby woods. I asked Rowan what made him take up motorcycle racing, he said “I guess it just looked fun and exciting, and I knew my dad knew a lot about it so I thought I would give it a go” his first race was at Swanmore Motorcross Track on the LEM 50, when I asked Rowan how he did he replied “I cant remember the exact position but I was far from last”. For this season Rowan is racing a Netafan/Tigcraft Yamaha 250 4 stroke, which he hopes will be competitive enough for him to win the Thundersport GP3. Gary, Rowan`s dad always travels with him and is there to egg him on and occasionally fix his bike. Being such a young age Rowan is obviously still at school, and he tells me “gets lots of homework too”. I asked Rowan his worst and best subjects at school and he told me “I guess science and maths are my best subject, languages on the other hand I struggle at, which is ironic as I go to a language school”. And what do his mates think of him racing motorcycles, “the novelty soons wears off and they are mainly interested when things go wrong”. I asked Rowan if there was anyone in particular he aspired
too in the Moto GP World I finally asked Rowan if he would ever consider taking up Road Racing, i.e Isle of Man TT, he said “I don’t really have the guts to speed through blind bends meters from a brick wall, respect to Mark Parrett”. I would like to wish Rowan the best for 2010 and the Thundersport GP3 races. You can keep up to date with Rowan`s race progress by logging onto the Haslemere Motorcycles Web Site.
